Minister of Interiors – Kitchen Design Preston

Minister of Interiors - Kitchen Design Preston
He explains to us: “The wet room side is a natural progression and extension to our popular bathroom choices. With everything set up now, I can sit in the kitchen showroom with instant access to all aspects of the business. At the same time, I’m in the front line, available to offer attention to detail and deal with every enquiry.”

It’s not quite the QE2, but advanced computer software allows Steve to take the controls and steer the business from his desk. It’s a position he relishes – but it’s not always been so!

“I have been in the building trade for around 30 years. When we started Countess it was kitchens, all cheap and cheerful. I decided to move up a level and revolve the business around kitchen design and service. Self-employed salespeople and installers were removed and I took complete control. To kitchens in our Preston showroom, we added bedrooms, then bathrooms and recently we incorporated sauna and steam.
“In the early days, we drew designs on pads. Any alterations meant you tore it up and started again. We had to manually order materials and invoices and write out cutting patterns for the factory. There’s very little paperwork now.”

With a custom-built factory and in-house design studio, Steve and team have all they need to hand. Machines have built-in memory, speeding up the accuracy and efficiency of the manufacturing side, whilst state-of-the-art software organises quotations, orders, supplies, production, diaries, delivery, installation and accounts.

Steve said: “In theory, I sit here and watch it all unfold. In practice, I can take customers through every step on screen – in their home or here in the studio, or even by email from my boat. The options and variables available are immense.”

Countess Kitchens in Preston employs 10 staff, all well-established team members, all self-reliant and competent at every aspect of the job.

“I’ve got it all here in Bamber Bridge, Preston, the personnel, the factory, the machinery. Total control builds mutual confidence, trust and integrity, nothing is hidden from our customers. Everyone has access to the owner of the company, I’m available by phone or email wherever I am. The next step is to introduce a high growth programme with education and training for new staff.”

Countess Kitchen’s reputation is built on years of customer care and satisfaction, backed by the national recognition of the Trust Mark and membership of the KBSA (Kitchen Bathroom, Bedroom Specialists Association). Peace of mind is paramount.
“We undertake some massive bespoke projects, it can be stressful, but I love it. I’m looking to put something different into every room, with everything controlled centrally, I believe we can rise to any challenge and go beyond what many others offer.”
With Steve Cowburn navigating his dream ‘steam team’ for Countess Interiors – you’d better believe it!
